It's somewhat hypocritical of too many people to focus on this issue when there are scores of MPs doing loads of 'outside' work - such as company directorships and plenty media work - whilst still picking up their basic salary paid by us taxpayers. Half of the last Tory cabinet spent more time on outsiders than GG is likely to spend in the BB house. So this focus on GG is rather a knee jerk overreaction IMHO.
I think that's true to an extent, but I think there's other stuff going on too - people just don't really like him very much, even if they like the fact that he's stuck it to the man or whatever. And Celebrity Big Brother is really known for being a kind of desperate last act for people keen to resuscitate their careers, so maybe it seems more cynical than usual...
