Charlie Brooker in the Guardian said much the same - that the first episode was the weakest in the series and the rest were fucking fantastic.

I still can't stand Doctor Who, I know its aimed at kids but I still find it cringe worthy...on the plus side some of effects work was nice but its still wasted by the inept writing and acting :(
