It's a pretty natural progression from that little "most viewed/most emailed" widget in the sidebar.

James, the point is these stories have always been written, it's just the first time they've been gathered together in one place. How is that dumbing down? Would you really want the BBC website - or any news outlet - to cover only politics/business/death/disaster etc? Light and shade...
